A pillar of endurance racing and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s efforts to decarbonise motorsport, hydrogen will be highlighted during the forthcoming third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Belgium (8-10 May).
Since 2018, the ACO, FIA WEC and Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps have been promoting hydrogen through the organisation of different events at the Ardennes venue.
From the official presentation of the MissionH24 programme and the inauguration of the TotalEnergies mobile hydrogen station, to demonstrations of hydrogen vehicles such as the LMPH2G and H24, these activations educate spectators in the exciting potential of this alternative energy.
Next month, a hydrogen village will be accommodated in the public fan zone, featuring a 700-bar TotalEnergies mobile H2 station to refuel the Alpine Alpenglow and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Yaris H2 Concept, which will both undertake zero-CO2 emission demo runs at 14:00 on Friday, 9 May and 12:20 on Saturday, 10 May. After this, the cars will return to the village to go on static display.
MissionH24 will be represented by Technical Director, Bassel Aslan, who will be available to answer questions about the new H24EVO. Additionally, engaging activities will allow racegoers to discover how hydrogen is made and its various uses through the presence of DiscoverHy, a small racing car developed with the support of AdvancedH2Valley, a consortium committed to the deployment of hydrogen in Western France.
A hydrogen forum, organised in conjunction with Hydrogen Europe, will raise awareness amongst European high school and university teachers about this new energy – with a dedicated hydrogen category planned for introduction in FIA WEC in 2028.
