European Le Mans Series (ELMS)

The newest big meeting of the season!

A major première, the ELMS Championship arrives this weekend, the 23th, 24th and 25th September for the first time in Belgium. This will be the season's fifth leg of the  European Le Mans Series, a competition reserved for LMP2 prototypes (cars which were here in force during the WEC in May) and LMP3s, which are also prototypes. Add in some LMGTE Gt class cars (Ferrari 458, Aston Martin, Porsche, and so on). There will be 13 LMP2 and 20 LMP3 cars at the start of a 4 hour Endurance, for a total of 41 cars involved, including the LMGTE class.

This very full weekend will also present Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup, Formula Renault 2.0 and the Trophy Renault Sport RS01 races.

A nice surprise for the public, the very famous Belgian WRT team (winner of, among other races, the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in 2011 and 2014) will make its debut in the LMP2 with a Ligier JS P2 . The race car will be entrusted to the brothers Laurens and Dries Vanthoor while the third driver will be Will Stevens whom we saw in Formula 1 in 2015.

One of the attractions of the weekend will be the return to Francorchamps of Polish driver Robert Kubica as part of the Renault Sport Trophy. The former Formula 1 driver, who was seriously injured in a rally accident, is delighted to be making a return to our Circuit at the wheel of a Renault R.S. 01 following an invitation from Renault Sport.

Another big attraction organised by Renault is the presence of a Formula 1 which will conduct several exhibitions and will enchant all spectators present, just like during the World Series by Renault. At its steering wheel will be the Canadian Latifi, a  Renault F1 test driver.

Along with the competition, entertainment will definitely not be lacking during these 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. With several freestyle shows and stunt shows, stuntmen will amaze the public by their performances, such as conducting jumps onto a giant airbag from a platform that could be up to 30m in height. The Renault village will also host lots of lively entertainment for children such as a make-up booth, bouncy castles and cycling activities.

So this weekend promises to be a little like the World Series by Renault: sporty, festive and very family-friendly, all the more so since entry to the Circuit is free!
