Spark E#Day, a real success

Sparking an e# revolution day

Spearheaded by Spark Racing Technology, the official supplier of FIA Formula E championship cars and a true pioneer in the development of hybrid and electric systems, the various stakeholders of electric mobility in the cities of tomorrow, the Smart Cities, were gathered together on the day.

More than 500 persons, meeting at the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, exchanged views on the electric mobility of tomorrow!

There were presentations and discussions with Bertand Piccard from Solar Impulse in closing argument, a competition for start-ups  and testing of electric vehicles, a demonstration of Formula E for the first time on our Circuit driven by Jerôme D’Ambrosio, Vanina Ickx and Bertrand Piccard, and the day was rich in exchanges and discoveries.

The Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps is delighted to have been able to host this important large-scale event, certainly the first in a long series.

An automobile Circuit cannot ignore ongoing technological development in its sector, and this is at the heart of these major changes. This is a real challenge facing society today and we wish to play our part in this development.

The Circuit has already instigated a genuine digital (r)evolution to become 100% connected: installation of dark fibre optic, WiFi available shortly, an app for offering more services to the public. This digitalisation also opens new prospects for the track.

WiFi, for example, will allow a car to be tracked in real time, to get into a car in real time with a driver or even to offer a a smart grandstand where the public will be able to follow the race as it wishes: a specific car with its favourite driver, the leading car, a race incident, etc.

New technologies allow new perspectives to be opened, to expand the boundaries of the track and its surroundings for our general public, drivers, teams, and organisers. We are working on this, along with all the players, who, like us, wish to be part of the innovation in our sector and in our Region.
